Piranha
Menu Management
Within Piranha's Advanced search, there are three ways to classify recipes:
- Menus
- Categories
- Subcategories
Every organisation has their own approach to how these classification options are implemented to best suit their needs - there's no right or wrong way. Some basic examples are shown below:
- Menus: Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Special
- Categories: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack, Other
- Subcategories: Hot, Cold, Base Recipes
A recipe can be associated with one menu, category and subcategory.
Once these are set up, and recipes assigned, you can use the classification drop-downs to quickly find your recipes.

Over time, it's likely that you will need to add, remove and update these classifications. Using the Labels panel will allow you to complete these actions. Use the tabs to switch between each of the classification types - they all work in the same way. This is achieved by following the steps below...
i. Adding Labels
- Select the required tab as appropriate
- Type the label name in the Add a label text field
- Click the Add button
ii. Edit Existing Labels
- Select the required tab as appropriate
- Click the pencil icon to the right of your label name you wish to edit
- Edit the label name in the opened text field
- Click anywhere outside of this field when you're done
Label changes will be updated automatically against any assigned recipes.
iii. Deleting Existing Labels
- Select the required tab as appropriate
- Click the X icon for the label you wish to remove
- Select Yes to confirm the action
Any recipes associated with the deleted label will be removed and replaced with None.
Managing Recipes
The Recipes panel allows you to search for recipes and then take actions with them. Available actions are:
- Apply selected label
- Remove selected label
- Hide
- Unhide
The Apply and Remove actions will update your chosen labels and recipes. The Hide and Unhide actions will update your selected recipes only.
This is achieved by following the steps below...
- Use the search features at the top of the Recipes panel to find the required group of recipes
- Based on the search criteria, select the checkboxes to the left of the recipes that require managing (you can also select all recipes using the top-level checkbox in the recipe list header)
- Once recipes have been selected, they will be highlighted green
- Select the required label tab and then label (within the left-hand Labels pane)
- Once a label has been selected, this will be highlighted green
- Finally, use the Actions drop-down to choose the task to be performed
Steps 4 and 5 are only required if applying/removing recipes from labels.
You can also assign these labels within the recipe itself. This is found under the Categorisation section from the Recipe information tab.
