Menu Management


Alongside your Classification Labels, you can also set up Tags. Every organisation has their own approach to how this classification option is implemented to best suit their needs - there's no right or wrong way. A basic example is shown below:

  • Tags: Allergens (Nut, Gluten, Dairy Free), Dietary Preferences (Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian)


A recipe can be associated with multiple tags.


Once these are set up, and recipes assigned, you can use the Tags drop-down to quickly find your recipes. Creating Tags are also beneficial when it comes to Pi's Menu Cycles.

Getting Started

If you cannot see the Tags drop-down, contact the Pi Helpdesk to request for your profile settings to be adjusted.


  1. Select the Piranha module from the left-hand navigation bar
  2. Select Recipes
  3. Select the Advanced search checkbox
  4. Select the Tags drop-down
  5. Click Manage tags
  6. You will be taken to the Recipe tagging page

Managing Tag Groups & Tags

The Recipe tagging page is used to manage Tag Groups and Tags. Over time, it's likely that you will need to add, remove and update your Tags. Using the Tagging panel (to the right-hand side) will allow you to complete these actionsThis is achieved by following the steps below...


i. Adding Tag Groups

  1. To the right of Tag Groups, click the Add button
  2. A new tag group is added with a generic name
  3. Select the generic name to open the text field and type your tag group name
  4. Click anywhere outside of this field when you're done
  5. You can now add tags to this group as needed


ii. Adding Tags

  1. Select the + button to the right of the associated tag group name
  2. A new tag is added with a generic name
  3. Select the generic name to open the text field and type your tag name
  4. Click anywhere outside of this field when you're done


iii. Edit Existing Tag Groups & Tags

  1. Select the tag group/tag name and make the adjustments in the opened text field
  2. Click anywhere outside of this field when you're done
Tag changes will be updated automatically against any assigned recipes.


iiii. Deleting Existing Tag Groups & Tags

  1. Click the X icon to the right of the relevant tag group/tag you wish to remove
  2. Select Yes to confirm the action
When a tag group/tag is removed, it is also removed from any recipes with which it is associated.

Managing Recipes

Within the Recipe tagging page you can search for recipes and then manage tags for them. The number of tags assigned to a recipe will show under the Tags column. To add/remove tags from recipes, follow the steps below...


  1. Use the search functions at the top of the Recipe tagging page to find the required group of recipes
  2. Based on the search criteria, select the checkboxes to the left of the recipes that require managing (you can also select all recipes using the top-level checkbox in the recipe list header)
  3. Select/deselect the checkboxes associated with the tag(s) you wish to apply/remove against selected recipes


Any tags associated with ALL of the selected recipes are shown with a tick, and any tags associated with at least one of the selected recipes is shown as a filled checkbox.
