Piranha

Menu Management

Pi's Food Checker is a fast and easy way to share allergen, nutrition and calorie information. Using your recipes built in Piranha, you can decide what dishes and information you want to display. All food operators must provide accurate allergen information to customers who request it, and ultimately provide food that is safe for consumers with allergies. The Food Checker is a web application that has been specially designed to help you be compliant with allergen legislation and to easily share information about the food you serve! Users can conveniently browse menu information via their phone (or tablet) at any time! If you do not yet have access to The Food Checker, contact the Pi Helpdesk and request for Edit Food Checker sites to be added to your profile.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Getting Started

  1. Select the Piranha module from the left-hand navigation bar
  2. Select The Food Checker
  3. Within the Food Checker sites tab, click Create new food portal (located to the right-hand side of the page)
  4. Using the text field within the pop-up box add a subdomain (this will be the name for your portal - for example, the site name)
  5. When ready, click Create and you will be taken to the Edit Food Portal page

Editing Food Portals

When creating/editing any portal, you have five sections to work through. Using these will help personalise the portal(s) to fit in with your organisation's look, plus add any extra information - such as, contact details. Each section will save your changes as you progress. Click the Portal list back button at the top-left of the page to return to the Food Checker sites page.

If you have multiple portals set up, use the available drop-down to easily swap between these to edit.

i. Setup

Within Setup, you can...

  • Subdomain - view and amend your subdomain (portal name)
  • Food Portal URL - click the URL to access the portal, or copy to share the link
  • Enabled - use the checkbox to enable/disable the portal site
  • Disabled message - enter content to be displayed when your portal site is not enabled
  • QR code - download the portal's QR code, or QR codes for each enabled recipe within that portal

Site footer allows you to add...

  • Footer text
  • Contact email
  • Contact phone
  • Website URL

The additions in this section will show at the bottom of the menu section within the portal. Make sure all contact information is correct and up-to-date.

iii. Disclaimer

In the Disclaimer section you can add your own disclaimer in the Additional disclaimer message text field. Select the Force disclaimer message checkbox if you'd like to force users to view the disclaimer before any other content. Regardless on if your disclaimer is forced or not - if added, it will be displayed in addition to the generic disclaimer message.

iiii. Recipe Settings

The Recipe settings allow you to make changes on a global level. For example, if you have chosen to show prices for any enabled recipe within the portal, selecting to Hide all for Recipe prices will override this. Select as many or a little checkboxes for your requirements.

iiiii. Design

The final stage is Design. Here, you can...

  • Main colour - choose the main colour for the portal - for example, this can match your organisation's brand colour (select the coloured bar to open the selection box)
  • Logo - upload your organisation/site logo (this may already be available if your organisation's SuperUser has added a logo)
  • Choose branding - select the portal branding image that fits best
  • Splash screen image - select your image for the welcome page (click the '+' box to upload your own)

A preview of the site welcome page will show to the right. Your chosen main colour and logo will appear within the Food Checker site itself.

Recipe Settings

Once your Food Checker site(s) have been created, you can start enabling and managing your recipes within the Recipe settings tab. The recipes and pre-defined filters are based on your Piranha configuration. Use the Search text field and filters to find recipes to enable on your Food Checker site(s). As you enable recipes and certain information, you will see a tick confirming this information will show.

  • If using Menu Cycles, you can enable recipes on your portals for each new cycle
  • The Food portal drop-down will show recipes only enabled on the selected portal

Click Edit to the right of a recipe to open a side panel for the recipe settings. These settings apply to the selected recipe on all your Food Checker sites.

Here, you can...

  • Download the recipe's QR code
  • Choose to include the recipe on all of your portals, or on selected portals only (selecting this option shows a list of your Food Checker portals so you can choose which ones to allow)
  • If you wish to display an alternative recipe name, enter it in the Public name text field - this does not affect the recipe name within Piranha
  • Ensure the Nutrients checkbox is selected if you wish to show nutrient information associated with the recipe
  • Ensure the Allergens checkbox is selected if you wish to show allergen information associated with the recipe
  • Select the Display photo checkbox to display the recipe photo

  • Select the Diet type
  • View the Classification labels and Tags assigned to the recipe

Here, you can click the Visit site link to view the portal; see whether a portal is enabled (tick) or disabled (cross); see the number of recipes enabled on the portal; Edit a portal; Duplicate a portal, which you can then edit as required; and Delete.

When viewing a portal in your browser, you can view this as you would see on a smartphone/tablet by using your keyboard and selecting fn and F12 together. To exit the view repeat this selection.
